Welcome to Penny’s Purse.  This site is meant to be an informative site for people in the Scottsboro/Jackson County area. You will find the latest information on different events, issues, and really anything else I can come up with that I think at least one person may find interesting.

To all the males- PLEASE do not stop reading at this point because I have name my blog, “Penny’s Purse”.  I need to explain the reason I chose this name.  First, I wanted something that would be easily remembered by all when telling people (which I hope you tell everyone) what the name of my blog/site is…..  So, that is the small reason for the name.  The main reason is because after months of pondering and trying to come up with exactly what I wanted this site to be all about and who I wanted to “attempt” to attract- I decided on Penny’s Purse. Why?  Well, like most purses (or let’s even go further and say brief cases, “man purses” -yes there is a such thing or a back pack- they come in many shapes, colors, fabrics and sizes just as our lives do and things that are going on around us. 

Such as Size:  Things in life come in all sizes but they are ALL important whether it is “Egg Cakes” that are available at the Bake Shop or a Community Event that needs every one’s support. 

What about fabric:  Some purses are made of cotton which is soft and easily taken care of by the owner but then some purses are leather and must be handled more carefully and taken care of in special ways.  I know that situations that I may mention on my site may be something as simple as supporting a school event by making a donation but then some may require a little more time and effort such as taking the time to support a blood drive for a local person that may be suffering an illness.

So now that I have compared my site with the outside of a purse, how does it compare with what is on the inside?  I am only going to relate this to what is on the inside of MY purse but I bet many of you can relate with me on several of these items.   I have everything in my purse from lipsticks to a pair of Lily’s underwear (you never know when she will have an accident or someone else may be in need to borrow a pair).  Think about it, what one may have in their purse may be treasures to them but junk to others.  It is all in how each individual personally feels about the items.  But I am pretty sure I could say that most everything in MY purse and probably YOURS has a purpose or reason for being there(even trash).  For example:

Lipstick: This is applied to make someone feel pretty, good about themselves or for me- NO LIPSTICK and you are not completely dressed.  In this blog, I want to share things about people, groups, teams, etc, in Scottsboro and Jackson County with hopefully the help of  other people like you to help me with this.  I want you to help by providing me with information so that I can let everyone aware of accomplishments and good news regarding local people and in return I hope that puts a smile on people’s face and they will feel good about themselves for their accomplishments.

Coins: I have lots of those scattered at the bottom of my purse.  But even though they may just be coins- you can collect a lot of those and that can turn into dollars and more money.  Take something happening to a person or family that may be positive (A group reaching a goal but it took a lot of individuals (coins) to turn that goal into a success) or it could be negative (some one may have a big need due to something bad happening; tornado victims, diagnosed with illness, home loss).  Scottsboro and Jackson County people are KNOWN for coming together to make things happen to help others in tough times).

Pens:  These are by the dozen in my purse but it always seems like there is someone that is in need of one including myself when I do not have my purse with me.  These small tools enable us to put things on paper -to tell or state something that someone is wanting to get from someone.  Basically, it is the instrument of communication (or should I say it is IF you leave out texting, Internet, etc.) for all of us at some time on a daily basis.  It could be signing a check or a form- it is giving confirmation of something from you.  So when I think of how a pen relates to what I want from Penny’s Purse- -it is simply  COMMUNICATION and CONFIRMATION of “things” going on locally.

Wallet: All of these hold the  identification of who you are (Drivers License), money to allow you to purchase items that you NEED or items that you just WANT, and then cards of all kinds whether it is your insurance cards, gift cards and debit/credit cards.  All of these cards provide us with convenience at the doctor’s office or even just putting gas in your car and never having to go inside to pay. (WE ARE SO SPOILED!!)   Your “wallet items” easily relate to what I will be talking about in my blog/site:  people, events, needs/wants, health-  I can relate all of these paper and plastic cards to what I want to share with you on Penny’s  Purse.  I hope that makes sense and you do not have to think to deep. That is one thing that I am not a fan of—-thinking deep!

Keys: We all have to get places and get into places.  Keys make it easy for us to open a door, a drawer or a box.  I hope this is what I will be able to do with this site.  Opening the door to new things- situations or events that you may not have known about if you had not checked my site.   I want to be able to share information whether it is a prayer request, a charitable event, a school event (from fundraiser to important events that the bands, clubs, or athletes have going on), blood drives, public meetings that affect us all, if there is an UNBELIEVABLE SALE at a local business that everyone needs to know about such as when the ferns arrive at Hammer’s or Home Depot or Leroy’s famous geraniums, mum and flats of pansies at the Limrock Green House.  All of those things are important to SOMEONE!!

And last but certainly not any less of a necessity in my purse is Lily’s underwear that I mentioned early.  I said that they were  there for those unexpected times for whoever should have the need at any given time.    Well,  you never know when my Penny’s Purse will come in “handy” for those times when words need to get out regarding events, situations, special needs or prayers and you do not have time to spread the word by yourself- that is what I will help you do.

Now that I have explained to you in detail the reason for the name, “Penny’s Purse”, I want you to know that my future post will NEVER be this long.  I just want you to be able to click on and check it in a matter of a few minutes and get caught up on any NEW news.  But this one is LONG – I am sorry buth then I am not because I wanted to be able to explain to you as if I were telling you in person and most of you know I LOVE to talk  AND there is not enough time in the day to do possibly do that in an efficient way. Ha!   I want you also to know that I have thought  many long hours of thinking of how I wanted to make the site become real.  As most of you know, I forward or send out emails on a daily, weekly or monthly basis regarding information that either myself or others forward to me –believing that  they should be sent to others to make people aware of something— no matter how small or how large.  Thank God for this great invention called the computer which enables us to communicate with others not only much faster but also with people all over the world.  Forget “snail mail”- we have Internet!!!  It allows information to travel in a matter of seconds so that others may know of things happening, have already happened or are going to happen in the future with a simple CLICK of a button!

I so enjoy sending/forwarding  out emails (I have had people tell me things like “that is your calling”, your “talent” or event your “spiritual gift”- I have to say that I really hope that I have more to offer than that but for now I will smile and say thank you for those kind words) but my email list continues to get larger and larger and it takes a lot of time to get it out there to everyone with being limited on number of emails that I can send at one time.  And I do not want to leave ANYONE out.

So know, I want you to continue to send me that great information but rather than forwarding it on (just email me)- I will post it on Penny’s Purse and then hopefully I will have people checking in to see what is going on each day.  I am going to depend on EVERYONE  to keep Penny’s Purse ALIVE!!!!  I do want you to tell people whether they know me or not about my site.  My intentions are to provide local information and not worry about the entire United States…. I think there is enough going on here that will keep me posting. Ha!  Remember, I want to be able to promote events going on in the community, churches, schools, charitable, local businesses and any other news going on in the city and county.  I do want you to know that I will NEVER put information out there WITHOUT checking into it to make sure all information is facts and not rumours.  I will always respect the privacy of others and if names are not to be  mentioned, then  I just need to know and it will be posted in that manner.

I look forward to you joining me in my new venture and hope that this will be a communication tool that all ages, genders, etc. will benefit from at some time or other.
