haunted

Okay, I have no idea how or why I remember this because I am a complete “Scaredy-Cat, Chicken, Afraid of my own shadow, have to sleep with the lights on when Jimmy is not at home and make my children sleep closest to the door (when Jimmy is not home) and they HAVE to sleep with me”  kind of person.   BUT, I have been to my share of Haunted Houses and it never fails, I have nightmares for days after my “Haunted Tour”.  What about Moody Brick???  When I was younger, it took days to get yourself  “siked up” to even get in the car to make the drive, then you had to practically beg your own self to turn into the drive…Ha!  How crazy I was and many of you to put your ”heart” through that emotional pain……  It is like one of those things that I feel drawn to be a part of and then make everyone around me suffer after I put myself through it….  I have not been to a Haunted House or anything else scary in a long time and I hope it continues that way.  The reason that I am telling you this is because I can remember that MANY years ago “The Yellow House” was a “Haunted House”  but only for a week or so-one time a year.  Do you remember that?

It was put on around Halloween by the Jaycee’s.  I think this was a group that had something to do with the Chamber of Commerce or at least that is what I have read while doing a little research on the Jaycees???  Not sure though and  I have not heard of it in years but I do remember everyone getting “Fired Up” about the Jaycee’s Haunted House every year.  I really do not think anyone lived there during the “Haunted House” years so obviously it was vacant and this group was allowed to host their fundraiser (which was the Haunted House event) each year there.

The next people that I remember living there were the Latham Family.  They painted it Pink and that house always look “loved” and you know how I am about a home being loved…..  It was then referred to simply as the Pink House and everyone in town knew exactly which house people were talking about when they said the “Pink House”.  It was like it was a “landmark” when referring people to places to the square, the Blue Condos, Dr. Jones’ Dentist Office, Vicker’s Accounting Service and Tom Perkins office at the time.  Bet you had never realized how many businesses were “right off” the square had you?   Do you remember the TV Repair Place there where B&B Reporting is now?  I remember taking a TV there one time after I got married.  Now, it seems like when a TV goes out- we just chunk it or yard sale it and go buy a new one… What happen to repair shops?   Now back to my original story…..  Then the Latham’s left their “Pink House” for a “Blue House” on Scott.  That is when the new owners of the “Pink House” made the decision to make a “Yellow House” which is what we have known it as for several  years now.

So I decided after having many conversations with people and realizing that there were a lot of people that  really were not familiar with the present, “The Yellow House”, that I would tell you what I know about it.  Following are the questions that I have heard people ask or ones that I have ask before and the answers to the questions follow.  Hope this will be beneficial to you as well.

*Who lives in The Yellow House?  No one lives there.

*What is The Yellow House used for now?  You can rent the house out for any kind of event.  Maybe a Children’s Tea Party, Birthday Party, Bridal Showers, Baby Showers, Family Reunions, Office Meetings, Civic Clubs, Christmas Parties and any other event that you may have come up.

* What about decorating for an event?  If you do not want to do it yourself, they have a service that will help you with that task.  It could be for a child’s party, adult party, Christmas Party, etc.

* What do you do about food?   If you do not want to bring your own food or have someone to cater your party or event, they have  full service catering available.  Above is picture of kitchen area.

* How many people will the house seat?  Seating is available for 10 people  and up to 49 people.

I hope this will answer some of the questions that I have been hearing from people.  I think one of the best features of going this route with a party or event is that you DO NOT HAVE TO GET YOUR OWN HOME READY!!!  How nice would that be to just show up and not have to worry with preparing your home for people and a party?  Especially, if you are busy, have young children and cannot keep the house picked up, in the middle of a construction project at your home, having a lazy “streak” in your life or just maybe you want a different “environment” for a party.

All you need to do to make arrangements for an event or to obtain more information regarding  The Yellow House is call Pat Blankenship at 574-6901.

Below are some additional pictures that Pat sent me that have been taken at The Yellow House.

And you cannot have a place to entertain without the “Facilities” which they do have, I assure you!

Oh my, I just felt like a realtor giving a on-line tour…Ha!  I do hope you have a better picture of what the house looks like on the inside.  To me, that helps me in making decisions when I have my “pictures” to refer to…..

So, the next time that you need to “entertain” but need to go a different route other than your own home– Consider having your “gathering” at  The Yellow House.

Tomorrow, I will be “filling” you in on an important event that will be taking place this Saturday and you can be a part of it in some way or another.

Until Tuesday-
